MoveNote

( What the app does )

Write your workout like a note. The app gets it.

I've been writing my workouts in my own shorthand for years. With MoveNote I can keep writing exactly like that, and the app still picks out exercises, sets and weights and gets the next workout ready. Everything stays on the iPhone. Right now I only use the app myself, but maybe it comes to the App Store later.

How it works

  1. Write the way you think

The title goes at the top. Below it comes each exercise with its target and rest, for example “3x8 2min”. In the lines under that you write the weight and then the reps of each set. Above the keyboard there's a bar with exactly the characters that fit right now, so you don't have to hunt for them.

    ( Sketch )

    Push
    Shoulders a bit tired

    Bench press 3x8 2min
    35W 8 8
    70 8 8 7V => 72.5

    One-arm curls 3x10-12 90s
    14 13/12 12/11 10V/10
  2. Text turns into sets

To the app, “70 8 8 7V” means 70 kg, three sets, the last one to failure (V for Versagen, the app speaks German). W stands for a warm-up set, D for a drop set, and 13/12 is left and right. With “=> 72.5” you set the weight for next time right away.

    Next time: 72.5 kg

  3. Next time is already set up

Next workout, the exercises and weights from last time are already there. You only type in how many reps you got. After every set the rest timer starts on its own, even on the lock screen. At the end you see the duration, the weight you moved and your sets.

Updates on MoveNote

All updates
  1. –

    First version

    • The text editor reads workouts, marks wrong lines in red and suggests exercises from last time.
    • A calculator comes with it. It shows what you need on rest days and training days, turns your weekly goal into a calorie target and works out your macros.
  2. –

Rest timer and the name MoveNote

    • Between sets a rest timer runs with an alert, on the lock screen and in the Dynamic Island, too.
    • A bar above the keyboard shows the characters that fit right now and suggestions from last time.
    • The app gets its name, MoveNote, and its own icon.
  3. Planning and Strava

    • The calendar shows planned and finished workouts, with the estimated duration and the calorie target for each day.
    • After a workout you see the duration and the weight you moved. If you like, the app sends the workout straight to Strava.
  4. Undo and redo

    • You can undo every change. Even a workout you deleted by accident comes back that way.
